Purpose and Values
We focus strongly on maintaining and fostering our school as a learning community, which values interaction between and contribution from students, parents, teachers and the wider community. Our main aim is to foster in students, qualities and skills which will enable them to be successful, confident and tolerant individuals able to contribute positively to a constantly changing society.
Student Learning
Improvement Goal
- To develop and extend student levels of thinking
- To adopt a more rigorous approach to the learning of mathematics
Targets
- To assess students against the 'Thinking Domain Rubric' from Prep to Year 6 and demonstrate improvement over the 4 year period (School based assessment)
- The proportion of students assessed by teachers as A, B or C in each Mathematics Strand to be at least 85% in Year 6 by 2008
- To decrease the proportion of students in Year 3 AIM results achieving below the 25th percentile
- To increase the % of net agree responses on the Parent Opinion Survey on the 'Quality of Teaching' and 'Curriculum Standards' improve the school mean by .3 by 2009
- Internal Survey of staff recognises a greater use of thinking tools across the curriculum in each teacher's practice
Student Engagement and Wellbeing
Improvement Goal
- To develop a learning environment that promotes independence, self-confidence, resilience and respect for self and others
- To develop a balanced approach to mental and physical wellbeing
Targets
- To increase the Year 5 and 6 results in the Student Safety Measure from the Student Survey from the 2005 results of 3.5 to be at least 4.0 by 2008
- On the Parent Opinion Survey the measures of Student Behaviour and School Climate to be maintained at 5.00 or above
- To maintain our low absenteeism of students remaining in the lowest 25th percentile in the State
- Monitor Physical Education activities to establish baseline data and demonstrate increased physical wellbeing
Student Transitions and Pathways
Improvement Goal
- To develop transition programs at all levels
- To provide a unique environment where children are known and catered for throughout the school
Targets
- To maintain an enrolment of two Prep classes each year.
- To increase the % net agree responses on the Parent Opinion Survey on the General Satisfaction and maintain 5.00 or above on the school mean
Key Improvement Strategies
- 1. Align school structures, practices and resources with the school strategic plan
- 2. Develop curriculum, assessment and reporting to align with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards
- 3. Enhance learning outcomes by using the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PoLT) in all classrooms
- 4. Develop a school based Rubric that covers the thinking domain Prep to Year 6
- 5. Investigate current mathematical teaching and learning practices including intervention and support programs
- 6. Strengthen our system of tracking student levels of achievement and learning growth at the whole school, sub school, year and student level and through teaming of teachers across CSF levels, particularly transitional Years 2 and 4 of the school. Refine our Prep to Year 6 assessment schedule and research and standardise the tests used
- 7. Enhance the Interdisciplinary Learning Strand and the use if ICT as a learning tool across the school
- 8. For staff to develop and explore excellent teaching and learning through classroom visits, professional reading and access national and international best practice. Select and implement best practices
- 9. Introduce facets of Lane Clark's ''thinkbox'' thinking model and the 'think!nQ' inquiry model from Prep to Year 6
- 10. Ensure the continued development of the 'Australian School Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics,' Science mentoring program (Emerging Scientists) in Years 3 and 4
- 11. Develop a whole school approach to delivering social skill programs. Extend student leadership programs to include mentoring and cross age tutoring programs
- 12. Strengthen the strong partnership between parents, teachers, students and the broader community
- 13. Develop and explore programs that focus on healthy lifestyle choices and responsible community behaviours
- 14. Create a comprehensive program with a focus on physical, personal and social learning
- 15. Develop an environment where high expectations are communicated and achievements celebrated
